A vibrant outdoor shopping, residential and entertainment center with a unique combination of specialty retail stores (including book store, accessories boutique, clothing, shoes, bank and etc.) exciting upscale diverse restaurants (Hispanic, Caribbean, Soul and etc) and amenities that include fitness (gym, dance studio and all American sports Restaurant), a central plaza with outdoor cafes and meeting areas, an ice-skating rink (November through March), and cultural outdoor events including summer concerts that provides a neighborhood gathering spot for residents. Not your typical shopping center – it’s an experience. In one visit you can pick up a new outfit, buy a new pair of shoes, work out at the gym, buy your groceries, stop by the dry cleaners, grab a bite to eat, dine in or simply enjoy your surroundings.

Great ideas, Kim!
This is idea is terrific! giving people a place to socialize and join in community events. We need a facelift in Huntington Station badly a total restructure would be great!
This does seem like a great idea but who wants to be in the middle where there is a “Pawn” shop especially owned by the biggest slumload around. I am for making the station a better place but when you have the biggest slumload right in the middle of the project, well, it’s horrible. It’s like a slap in the face and as usuall he is laughing all the way to the bank.
I do think this is a good idea for new development, especially to attract commerce from out-of-towners. But, I wouldn’t want to see just a glorified mall when Walt Whitman is just up the road, and I don’t think that would be in keeping with the village-y feel the NY Ave. corridor already has the bones for, and I don’t want to see the NY Ave. corridor from Jericho to the train station remain simply an area to drive through but avoid as it is now for those going to the Big H or Hunt. Village.
Weird how Alix L posts the same thing over and over…is she real? And all I see in the rendering is lots and lots and lots of housing. The one thing every speaker said they didn’t want at the BOA meeting back in March.
I think it should be 20 stories why waste such space, maybe 40 stories I’ll take the top floor. This is all MADNESS.
I think Dan is right though, Walt Whitman is right there… or might i suggest to use the Big H shopping center as that has been in need of a total make over for years. We have the community gardens right there too… lets get rid of Burger King and Modells and whatever else thats there and replace it.
I like the idea of a place to socialize. If you build too many stories on the new building, you’ll have too much congestion in the area. I think we are trying to make Huntington Station a place people would like to move to, but not too congested. If you build too many stores, we’ll just have more vacant shops in the area, which can make it look run down. I like the idea of redoing the Big H shopping center or adding an area to it where people can socialize. This would bring more value to the area.
There are better ideas for building a place for community and socializing among the other project submissions. This one just sounds like another strip mall area on Long Island. Huntington Station can benefit to stand out from the crowd.
