On Thursday January 17, 2013 around 6:00pm the sounds of entrepreneurs, business owners and business experts could be heard echoing through the Huntington Station Public Library. Renaissance Downtowns and Source the Station sponsored a Small Business Commercial Real Estate Seminar to promote the participation of Huntington Station businesses in the revitalization effort as well as to provide resources, contacts and information about programs, people and opportunities that will help Huntington Station businesses be the source of economic change in downtown Huntington Station.

Among the panelists for the seminar were the following organizations: The Huntington Station Business Improvement District, Empire State Development Corporation, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Town of Huntington Economic Development Corporation and Community Development Agency, the Offices of Congressman Steve Israel and Huntington Station Latin Quarters. Over 50 business owners, entrepreneurs and economic entity representatives were present and were able to ask questions regarding everything from negotiating better leases to financing opportunities to the work being done by the BID and the EDC.

Attendees were very glad to have this type of event to help inform the community and empower business owners. A freelancer and perhaps a future business owner said, “Thanks for providing the opportunity for events like this. It’s energizing to see that the community DOES have potential.” Another current business owner said, “Great session! Very helpful!”

Renaissance and Source the Station will be working on developing more community seminars like this one to bring information, resources and opportunities to community members. Notes, contacts and resources will be collected and put onto a special page on the Source the Station website as a resource for business owners and entrepreneurs.   To see pictures from the event visit our Facebook Page.   Notes from the event can be found here.
